Name: Chaos of the Universe—The Disorderly Attractor
For: Physical Structures Project - Final Assignment
Type: 3D Structure
When: 2010
Description: The scientific attractor is defined as: a point in the ideal multidimensional phase space that is used to describe a system toward which the system tends to evolve regardless of the starting conditions of the system (can be any shape or form, and yet still remain close even if slightly disturbed). The Lorenz Attractor is an orderly diagram of this idea; that the universe is parallel in a sort of way. For example, if you roll a ball off of a table, gravity will allow it to fall off and land in a certain direction. If you again place the ball in a similar (but slightly different) way as before, it will roll off the table in the same direction. I wanted to build this diagram, but with the similar idea that the universe is, in fact, an unorganized and mess of a place (at least in humans’ minds). This was created by dyed yarn and draped by holes in the back of the box with the yarn tied together.
